27 Million Slaves

There are 27 million slaves in our world today. It is estimated that 50% of them are children.

The success of the federal $150 billion emergency economic stimulus plan will hinge on whether American consumers do what they do best - spend, spend, spend. President Bush and leaders in Congress hope people will spend those rebates - a flat-screen television, or a trip to Disneyland, to help revive the economy.

What is wrong with our world? Would it not be great to have a presidential candidate stand before America and share a vision of feeding and educating every person in the world first and then figuring out what the problems are after that. It is estimated that 100 billion dollars would wipe out world hunger, solve preventable health issues - and oh yes, provide education for every child in the world, yet our leaders are throwing $150 billion back asking us to go out and blow it at the mall.

The bottom line is that with this money we could solve many of the world's greatest problems - and still have enough money to give everyone a couple of hundred to get the economy going. Granted it wouldn't be enough to buy a new flat-screen TV but it would be enough to buy a brand new ipod or something.

Hi Pam,

I've been following your blog ever since you Oprah appearance! Also met the gal from Rapha House at the Missionary Convention and applaud her work in Cambodia and your work around the world. Thank you so much for following God's lead.

About your latest blog, wouldn't it be wonderful if all that money could be given to help free slaves, educate those without hope in the future? I know lots of money has been given for efforts like this over the years but still the problems remain.

I think the problem lies in the people who receive these funds and what they do with it. It would be good if you and others like you should be given a large amount of funds to help your ministry as I trust that you will do the utmost good with this money. But there are oh, so many who would abuse the money for their own good. And that has been done in the past over and over again.

So what is the solution? Not sure but don't think giving all of us $600 will help the people of Africa and Asia. Perhaps you might suggest that those of us who are given this largess, might share with those who need it much more than we? I think that might be a start of something good.

That would be a wonderful idea IF it would be implemented. I try to do my part by sending a check ever month to Augustine at Ghana Bible College to use for the college or for the Lamplighter Community Academy which he established in his home village. that way I know the money is going directly to the people in need instead of to some organization that will take a percentage off the top to run their organization. Which is not always a bad thing either.
